It was like yesterday when I entered Patricia Field's ArtFashion Gallery located in New York. I couldn't believe I'm actually standing in front of this legendary Costume Designer, who created my favourite Carrie Bradshaw's outfits or who always takes my breath away while watching Andy's style change in Devil wears Prada. I will not lie - I fell in love with SATC TV show mostly because of Pat's outstanding work. It's just so fascinating to watch how the one single person can has so many different characters thanks to fashion. And that's why I love styling so much - you can be whoever you want to be, without boundaries, fear and uniformity. That freedom you get through clothes is such a magical moment.
And now, here I am - in one of my the most loved places in the world - New York, meeting with my idol. It was like a dream listening her to speak about her whole career path and getting in the fashion world; mentioning some funny moments during filming; sharing her the most and the least favourite Carrie's looks and how huge it was to work on projects such as mentioned SATC or Devil wears Prada.
And what is Patricia like? She is such an intelligent, humble, funny and very stylish lady! Patricia is my idol for years and spending some time with her and actually had that opportunity to speak with her was for me like one of my biggest dreams come true! What still resonates in my head is her opinion on the fashion cycle and trends: "Trends die young."
It's interesting how easy is to spot the biggest inspirations and latest trends when walking down the NYC streets. As my favourite photographer Bill Cunningham once said: "A street is the best runway show." I cannot agree more! I love this city for its Carrie Bradshaw's charm, glamorous and delicious Cosmopolitan taste and multicultural vibe. And fashion, of course!
I could write about this special day for hours, but let's move on! Enjoy the most memorable Carrie's fashion moments in SATC and find out which one is Pat's all time favourite!
The ArtFashion Gallery itself is such a cool place to visit so when you are in New York, you just need to come! You can find there many original designs from local artists who express their talent in the most creative way. And who knows, maybe you get lucky and meet Patricia personally!
Thank you Patricia for your time and lovely chat we had! It was my pleasure to meet you.
