Everybody likes collecting something. A man can make the rarity even from an ordinary thing, which is valued to him, because he owns it. But imagine those enthusiasts, who really collect the rare pieces, which hide a little of our history and have their own story. What feeling it has to be, when this person - a collector has something what shaped and changed our whole history?
I love the history of fashion and the concept of a vintage fashion fascinates me a lot, too. I have found a great man, who is not only a fashionlover (specifically of haute couture), but who also collects it! Todays article is about stunning Hamish Bowles and his documentary named Vintage Bowles. I very appreciate him, because he is lettered, sensitive and a real fashion and its history expert.
Každý rád niečo zbiera. Človek dokáže aj z obyčajnej veci urobiť vzácnosť, ktorá má pre neho veľkú cenu už len tým, že mu patrí. Predstavte si však tých nadšencov, ktorí zbierajú skutočne cenné zberateľské kúsky, ktoré v sebe ukrývajú kúsok histórie a vlastný príbeh. Aký to musí byť pocit, keď tento človek - zberateľ má pred sebou niečo, čo formovalo a menilo celé naše dejiny?
Milujem históriu módy a pojem "vintage fashion" ma veľmi fascinuje. Našla som skvelého človeka, ktorý je nielen jej milovníkom (konkrétne haute couture) ale ju aj aktívne zbiera! Dnešný článok je o ohromujúcom Hamishovi Bowlesovi a jeho dokumente Vintage Bowles. Hamisha si veľmi vážim, pretože je sčítaný, vnímavý a v móde a jej histórii sa aj skutočne vyzná.
How did his collection exactly begin? Anne Bowles, his mother, remembers that moment when Hamish showed his interest in fashion and later in collection, as well. During their walk down the street near their home in London he noticed an Indian woman wearing the traditional clothing named Sárí. He could not stop staring at her and he looked carefully at her clothing. Since Anne loved antique stores and photography, no wonder that the passion for collecting is also in his blood. He read a lot about Cecil Beaton in fashion magazines such as British Vogue and he inspired him so much that he started with collecting. What is admirable is the fact, that he started with collecting when he was seven (!) and this madness continues till today. For more than 40 years he collects everything what is related to the women´s haute couture - from Charles Frederick Worth to the models of the 21. century. Except for the clothes and accessories he also collects imagery and documentation that relate to the fashion designers and people, who have shaped the fashion through decades.
Ako sa však k zberateľstvu dostal? Jeho mama Anne Bowlesová si veľmi dobre pamätá ten moment, keď u Hamisha spozorovala obrovský záujem o módu a neskôr aj o zberateľstvo. Pri prechádzke po ulici neďaleko ich domu v Londýne si malý Hamish všimol indickú ženu, ktorá mala oblečený tradičný odev Sárí. Nevedel z nej spustiť oči a do detailov skúmal jej odev. Keďže Anne milovala starožitníctva a fotografie, niet divu že vášeň pre zberateľstvo má Hamish v krvi. Pri prezeraní si módnych časopisov ako napríklad britskej verzie časopisu Vogue sa veľa dočítal o Cecilovi Beatonovi, ktorý ho naviedol na zberateľstvo. Obdivuhodné je na tom to, že s ním začal už ako sedem ročný (!) a toto šialenstvo trvá dodnes. Už vyše 40 rokov zbiera všetko, čo sa týka histórie ženského haute couture - od Charlesa Fredericka Wortha až po modely 21.storočia. Okrem oblečenia a doplnkov zbiera aj dokumentáciu a snímky, ktoré sú vo vzťahu s návrhármi a ľuďmi, ktorí sa zapísali do módnych dejín.
His first real collecting piece was a suit by Cristobal Balenciaga. Hamish, who was 11 at the time, spent his several weeks pocket money on that. Three years later he decided to draw and write about his favourite fashion designer to the British Vogue, where he was later invited - with a champagne and an orange juice and he never looked back.

Jeho úplne prvým zberateľským kúskom bol oblek značky Cristobal Balenciaga a vtedy 11 ročný Hamish na neho minul svoje niekoľko týždňové vreckové. O tri roky neskôr sa rozhodol nakresliť a napísať o svojom obľúbenom návrhárovi do britského Vogue, kam neskôr bol pozvaný- ponúknutý šampanským a pomarančovým džúsom a už sa nikdy neobzrel späť.
